<<Il pappagallo dell’anziana signora Jones non parlava da quando lei lo aveva comprato venti anni prima. Un giorno la donna, non avendo più semi per pappagallo, gli dà un vecchio pezzo di lattuga che trova nel frigorifero. Il pappagallo la mangia e poi commenta: “Questa lattuga è marcia”.

La signora Jones lo guarda stupita e dice: “Sei capace di parlare! Perché non hai parlato per vent’anni?”

“Perché avrei dovuto? – chiede il pappagallo – Sono sempre stato soddisfatto del cibo che mi davi”>>

<< Old Mrs Jones’ parrot hadn’t said a word since she bought it twenty years ago. One day she had finished the parrot seeds and gave it a piece of very old lattuce she found in the fridge. The parrot ate it and then commented: “This lattuce is off”.

Mrs Jones stared at it and said: “You can talk! Why haven’t you talked for twenty years?”

“Why should I? – asked the parrot – I was happy with the food you gave me”>>
